President's Message
If the level of complaints is a measure of the way the profession is meeting the standards expected by the public of NSW then the fewer the complaints the better. It is very pleasing to report that there have been no new complaints for the last three months. As far as I can determine, this is the first time that this has been achieved. Congratulations to the profession!

Horse Dentist Guilty

In Tamworth Local Court on 15 October 2004, Ms Zoe Wharton a Horse Dentist from Gunnedah, pleaded guilty to two charges that she performed an act of Veterinary Science when she is not registered as a Veterinary Surgeon and two charges relating to the possession and supply of the restricted Schedule 4 drug Xylazine.

VSIC Report

As the promulgation of the new Act is imminent, this may be the last article from the current Veterinary Surgeons Investigating Committee. New complaint procedures and new committees will be introduced in accordance with the new Act. Under the Complaints and Disciplinary Proceedings part of the Act, the Board may delegate to a committee to assist it in connection with the exercise of its functions. It may be that any or all of the members of the committee are not members of the Board.

From The Hospital Inspector’s / Acting Registrar’s Desk

I have been very busy in the last few months, not solely with hospital inspections, but multi faceted administrative work. I was given the opportunity recently to act in Maria Linkenbagh’s position as Registrar and have found the work very interesting and challenging. I now have a much better appreciation of some of the activities undertaken by the Registrar.

Annual Roll Fee for 2005
Annual Roll Fees for 2005 were due to be paid by 31st October 2004. Under Section 19 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1986, failure to pay the Roll Fee results in removal from the Roll on 1st January 2005. A penalty fee of $235 is payable for restoration to the Roll.

If you have not paid your 2005 Annual Roll Fee, please do so immediately. The website does not have a standard form for this process, so if you have lost the 2005 Annual Roll Fee invoice that was posted to you in September, please write to us with the following information:
• your full name.
• current work/postal address.
• amount to be paid ($235)
• payment details - credit card details if paying by credit card, or enclose a cheque.
